How this came to be…

I have been a camp director for over five years and know how important summer arts programming is for young people. I know parents and young people are looking for alternatives during this summer of social distancing. I am excited to collaborate with youth, honor their inherent creative and technical knowledge while deepening their interests and build media literacy skills. This will be a space for experimenting and exploration.

ABOUT ME:

ANDY (SHE/HER/THEY/THEM)

I am artist, dancer, and community activist. I have worked as a Director of Youth Programming at an Arts non-profit for five years. I created social justice-based programs that provided free arts programming city-wide, in partnership with creative organizations and museums.

I got my degree in art and film, with a satellite focus on critical race theory, at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.  In 2017, I received a certification in Non-profit Management from the University of Washington. I am currently a Masters Student at Brown University in the Public Humanities program. I am passionate about using art as a catalyst for empowerment and healing practices for female-identified, queer, minority and under-represented communities and young people.

Words from others:

“I trust Andy with any and all of your kids and obviously mine. She's fun, she's playful, she knows they need physical movement, connection, laughter (all that built in) and she'll be giving them empowering space to tell their stories and make their films, with an eye towards media literacy. Andy is a liberation-minded, anti-oppression, youth-advocating and caring, creative powerhouse of wonder. She'll have guest teachers talking about props and sets, acting, etc.” - Amy Walsh (Friend/ Parent/ Collaborator)
